Authors note: I promise I am still here, I got sick in the past couple days(and still sick) but I finally finished this piece. So sorry I didn't finish this a while ago when you requested, but I got stumped midway through, I also feel I didn't write well enough for it but here it is. I got a few more story drafts I'm finishing up(mafia kc au, the next chapter of constantly looping, a Misaki x florist reader, and the KC cast as the spiderverse.) So I have more to publish soon! (This is kinda hinted of Ronin x reader but can be viewed platonic as well)

Money was always an issue, making sure whatever debt you have left is paid for, taking shady deals or assassin missions. Whatever to pay for it, it was worth it. To pay that debt your family left you. Having multiple jobs run you dry at times, but you have a main job, as a journalist. It was a bright and joyful passion, finally getting a job that was normal…

But on the other side, your ‘other job’ wasn’t getting many hits lately. Either way, most of your clients don’t need the bodies, so you take it, and sell the parts to people, at least you get decent money from it. A bit more cash in your wallet. A bit more into freedom.

One thing you didn’t expect was to join a server full of killers, and oddly enough, one was already hunting you down. K9, or V was hunting you down for killing a person you were contacted to kill, without knowing it’s you. Goreboy, or Ronin, doesn’t think you are, which is fine, you don’t care. Misaki totally thinks you are but not in the sense of what type of killer you are, or Angel becoming great friends with you. You helped Luca and Feli start dating. It was a sweet home-ish feeling from the server.

You got a new kill mission from someone, they wanted an ex gone, and left the body to you, about 6 grand from the client and about 200 grand from the body. Not a bad payout, but they want the victim’s neck to be sliced open with a bloody message for the homewrecker.

Looking up from your phone, you saw where the to-be victim lives. Nice place as well, a home, an expensive car, even the lawn is well-kept. A typical cover up story for the gruesome truth that lies inside. Sighing, you walked in, the ex never locked the doors, trusting the easy hackable security system to protect them.

Easy job, easy money. Warm red liquid stains your hands as you write the exact words your client wants. ‘Fuck you Wench’. Taking a couple photos and sending it to the client, job done and money sent to your bank account. Now, picking up the body and taking it along with you. Each piece was important and is worth a lot. Spending a few hours cutting the body, storing it, then off to celebrate with a little food adventure on what fast food place is open at midnight was left on tonight's todo list.

Carrying a body just to see Ronin in an alleyway? Now, that was nothing on your list of tonight’s todo list. The body drips blood from your arms while he looks at you, a bit in shock before laughing.

“Now this is a treat before the devil’s eyes. A devine fallen from grace, but from how long ago?” His crowbar was soiled with blood, dripping from it. Seems fresh as well. Must have just killed someone.

You were still in a state of shock, this was the first time someone caught you. How are you supposed to react to this? Like, laugh it off and walk away, or say something about the weather? “Hehe… he… I- uhmm… I’m gonna go back to work.”

Before taking a step away, he interrupts you, “Hey, stay right there.”

Fuck.

When you looked back at him, he was right there, right in front of you. His smirk felt like poison, controlling you to stay there. “So what’s the story? Someone who pissed you off?”

The body in your hands was getting colder, and it was losing blood. “No, just a hitman. I kill and get money, now you have a story, can I leave?”

He raised an eyebrow, “And they want the body? Damn, Misaki wasn’t commissioned to bring a dead body back to their client before. You must be special.”

You felt the hot air flow out of your nose, you were getting annoyed, you needed to get home. “No, I just sell the parts.”

His smile turned sinister, “Selling body parts? Damn, did not expect that one.” He looked proud, that you aren’t some innocent writer as he thought, but a killer, sinful like the rest of them.

“I’m leaving, I’m losing money standing here.” You stepped away from him, you can’t joke with him nor play around. You need to go, the parts in the body can go bad soon. As you started walking away, you noticed Ronin following you. He still had his smirk on his face. “What are you doing?”

“Following you, Darlin’.” He said, like some kid who found the candy store, “I want to know how deep you are, how corrupted you are. How the innocent writer become a killer?”

“So curiosity? That’s making you follow me?” You said, the street lights were getting dimmer as you walked further in the alleys. You know these alleys like the back of your hand, so maneuvering through them was easy in the dark.

“Sure, let’s call it that.” He continues to follow you through the alleys, looking around, like he’s gonna memorize the way to your place. You sighed, you don’t care anymore, you need these parts as good as they can be at the moment to sell them, and if entertaining Ronin is on tonight’s todo list, it doesn’t matter now.

Ronin was in your place, heck, in the room where you butcher the corpses. You were slicing the body open, and he watched, he was enjoying you pulling each organ out, but more carefully than he liked. But it was a show to him.

You finally got everything done, everything was into bags and containers ready to be sold. You peeled off your bloody gloves and apron, putting them onto the counter. Ronin was clapping as he looked at the containers and bags, impressed.

“Are you going to leave now? You had your show, Ronin.” You crossed your arm, you were hungry now. You wanted to eat something, then pass out. You have work in the morning and it’s already late.

“Come on, Darlin’? Pushing me away already? Here I thought I can at least treat you for the show you presented to me.”

“I’m not going out to kill someone else.”

He chuckled as he walked closer to place his arm around your shoulders, dragging you with him. “Nah. Let’s get some food.” He pushed you out of your butcher room, making you walk ahead. “Go and change, you can’t show how sinful you have been tonight.” He winked as you rolled your eyes.

“You make it sound like… Y’know what, nevermind.” You started walking away toward your room. Not seeing Ronin taking a few pictures of the butchered man, he was so going to show the rest of the server that the enigma of the server was like them. Not a lair.

Honestly figuring out how characters would react to a mundane problem Is like... Such a good way to kind of idk get to know them better (sorry I don't know how to better put it lol)

it is! i love fleshing out all the tiny details of a character, because even if it never comes up in my actual writing it truly can help get a proper feel for the nuances and little details of their personalities and dynamics … i just compile my lists of unrelated unimportant character details. and i go :o)

naoya would step on a spider but jian would gently move it outside with a cup and some paper - both of them would death with it for you, but naoya would call you chickenshit while he did so and jian would try to tell you how spiders are really very beneficial and not scary at all (he still screams when one crawls into the shower with him). isako hates the taste of coffee but whenever someone offers to get her some she demands the sweetest thing on the menu because she likes the social aspect and hasn’t thought that she could just order a milk tea or something. it’s 50/50 on whether or not any of our special grade curses enjoy eating people food. mahito and jian largely do, dagon and jogo largely don’t, hanami doesn’t eat anything at all. when it comes to the third-years, todo is the only one who has no negative hangups about visible scars - hakari is a bit vain and used to being able to heal any injury, hoshi is worried it’d make her look too tough/scary, and kamo is self-conscious about his even if in his case they’re a pretty identifiable blood-manipulation-user trait.

i need to know every single character’s favourite colour and most prevalent minor/embarrassing phobia. it’s important to me.

reflections; maki x reader

:she loves you, after all

:master list

The next time Maki's gaze lands on you, she sees you in a new light. A light that makes you look a little less bored, a light that takes her back to last year when things were fine, good. She doesn't know if that's good or bad, or worse than the present. She remembers seeing you smile at one of Panda's jokes, the way your cheeks would raise as your lips would curve upwards.

This new light makes you look more at peace with yourself than you actually are. Your eyes don't look as tired and void. Your skin looks clear. Your hair looks soft, like she wants to feel her fingers running through it after a long day. You look like how you used to.

Everyone else sees the reality— a tired, blank, hollow shell. The marks under your eyes that indicate you haven't slept in who knows how long. The hood in your eyes that hide the abyss behind your shell. The slump of your shoulders.

There was a slowness in your speed, Noritoshi could see the blur of your body getting fainter, even with his extremely narrow eyes. Your fist landed on his jaw, knocking him back a few feet before you gifted him with a kick to his chest, sending him flying against the base of a tree.

You're still fast— you reach him before he can even react, your bruised knuckles landing a blow right under his solar plexus. The air leaves his lungs for a moment, earning a breathless, dry cough from him as your fist lands on his cheek again and again. Your fingers are tight in his hair, holding his head still while you hand it to him.

In a second, you leave him with the final blow and kick him away before spinning around to hop over Miwa's blade, your foot lightly jumping off to double jump and summersaulting to the ground, crouching and kicking her ankles.

You catch her sword as it falls from her hands, quickly sticking it to her sleeve and pinning her to the ground.

Your head whips around, you see Todo in the corner of your eye running after Yuji. You watch the giant run off, disappearing into the greenery before a quick bullet swipes past your cheek. It hits the ground, making a little hole in the dirt; you look up, spotting her in a tree and seeing Mai standing on a branch.

She keeps her gun aimed at you, her finger still on the trigger and her eye closed, but she doesn't shoot. She couldn't. She could shoot anything and everything around you, but never yourself. The thought of hurting you hurts her— it gives her a headache.

The two of you keep eye contact for a moment— your eyes doing the talking rather than your mouths. A shadow appears over the both of you, Momo's on her broomstick like a witch. You look up, and you know that's your signal to disappear. You weren't part of the plan, the Tokyo team was supposed to split up when Todo came. It was you who separated everyone, albeit in their designated groups, and you went after the Kyoto team yourself.

Mechamaru was the first one to get out, simply kicking the robot into the greenery and making a Mechamaru-shaped hole. Noritoshi was next, then Miwa, then Mai- though you couldn't bring yourself to do it. You wanted Maki to hate you, but you didn't want Mai to be anymore involved than she already is.

You run off, disappearing a second later without a word as Momo looks at Mai with a puzzled face. She says nothing, opting to hop off the tree and move to the next one.

The next time you run into Maki, you find her in the riverbed, getting choked by a curse of some sort. For once, and only this once, your emotions let loose. Your anger, your sadness, your disgust, loneliness, hatred, guilt. It all comes rushing out in the form of your cursed technique: Soul Desperation.

"Soul Art: Desolate Defiance!"

A portal of cursed energy opens, a strike of shadows and vines racing out to pierce what looked like the curses shoulder with a really bad skeletal condition. The shadows and vines tackled the curse to the ground while your cursed energy lifted you up from the ground.

A stiff stick of shadows clouded in your hand, solidifying to form a purple lightning bolt you would see in illustrations of Greek mythology. The vines knocked Maki out of the curses grip, causing her to fall a foot or two before being caught by secure arms— yours.

Yuji and Todo show up a minute later, earning a lifted brow of confusion from you but nonetheless going along, carrying her in your arms all the way back to Shoko's office.

Luckily you were the first one there, Shoko was on her computer completely unaware of what was going on outside.

Shoko looked up— her eyes widening when she finds you and Maki in the same vicinity (let alone in your arms).

"Did something happen?" Shoko asks, examining Maki's limp body.

"Kinda," you cringe, nibbling on the inside of your cheek. "A curse attacked us during the event."

"I would be surprised," Shoko sighs, standing up from her chair to keep examining Maki up close. "But this is like an everyday thing."

"I suppose you're right," you huff, following Shoko after she tilted her head back to the table she set up behind her desk.

You set Maki's unconscious body down on the steel, gray table, bringing her down as gently as your grip would let you, resting her arms on her sides and laying her flat on her back.

Shoko glances at you as she puts on her gloves, "You're looking at her like she just died."

That reminds you to check her pulse. "She's fine."

"There's some bruising around her neck," She points out. "She get strangled?"

"The curse had her in its grip," you clench your fists, your nails digging crescent moons into your sweaty palms. Shoko notices your tension and walks over and gently presses her fingers on the sides of Maki's throat and neck, checking for any swelling.

She takes her fingers and lifts open Maki's eyelids; her pupils are slightly dilated— bigger than their usual pinpointed size. She lets them rest, not catching them forcefully shutting before she reaches for a rag over the double-sided sink and ran it under some water before wringing it.

"She's a little warm," Shoko starts, folding the rag. "But she'll be fine. I'm assuming the curse knocked her out, her pupils are dilated and her pulse is steady." She rests the damp rag on Maki's forehead, pushing back her bangs.

You look at her face, watching as her chest softly goes up and down. You're tempted to reach for her hand, to hold it and stroke it with your thumb while she rests. But surely Shoko would reprimand you for that and demand you keep your hands to yourself.

Shoko looks at you. "You told her yet? About the thing?"

"You should be a writer," you glare at her sarcastically. "Not really. But she knows."

Shoko stands there, silent, appalled for a moment. "You didn't tell her, but she knows?"

"Yeah," you look back down at Maki again. "She's not really speaking to me, either."

Shoko sighs, taking off her gloves and pressing her foot onto the bottom of the trash bin next to her work desk. She tosses them in. "Better than not seeing her at all."

"I suppose," you sigh. You look at her resting face again, taking note of the flush in her cheeks, probably from her body temperature.

"How'd she find out anyways? I didn't tell Gojo yet, so it couldn't be from him."

You purse your lips. "I was...talking to her sister about it, and she walked in on me right as I got to the point."

"Sheesh," Shoko cringes, biting back a giggle but still grinning cheekily. "Her sister? I get one of the other second years or maybe the newbies, but her sister?"

"Not one of my finest moments," you roll your eyes but agree with her anyways. "The icing on the cake was what I said afterwards."

"Can't be that bad."

"I basically said I would've killed her anyways."

"Put a little cherry on top," Shoko jokes, chuckling dryly as she sits back down in her chair. You look at her, watching her go back to swiping her mouse and playing Tetris.

"So basically we're not talking anymore. I...overheard her and Kugisaki in her room talking about it when it happened. I heard Maki say she might never forgive me for that...I can't blame her, I wouldn't forgive me either— I don't forgive me."

"And why's that?" Shoko turns away from her computer, looking at you as she crosses her legs and rests her elbow on her desk. You glance back at her again. "What?"

"Why do you not forgive yourself?"

"Well...she was my best friend, and I kept that huge secret from her."

"Do you perhaps think things would be different if you'd grown a pear and told her yourself?"

"In essence," you frown. "Maybe...all the first years wouldn't hate me if I did."

"Maybe she wouldn't hate you as much," Shoko tilts her head to Maki on the table. "Why're you bringing up the first years anyways?"

"Kugisaki's got a bone to pick with me and Megumi doesn't understand what's going on so he doesn't pick a side. And, uh...that Itadori kid just got here, so he's not quite reliable either."

"What about Panda and Toge?"

"They're aware but they're also neutral."

"And have you told Okkotsu?"

"Maki probably got to him already, so I won't bother."

Shoko sucks her teeth, cringing and looking at the floor for a moment. She looks back at Maki again, tapping her shoe against the floor.

"Do you blame yourself? About Maki being on that table?"

You lift your eyebrow. "What's that have to do with anything?"

"Do you?" Shoko pressed, tilting her head towards you.

You sigh sharply. "I suppose I do."

"Because you lied?" She mirrors you and lifts her own brow. "Do you think she wouldn't be on that table if you told her before?"

"Maybe," you huff as Shoko kicks out a chair for you to sit in. You plop down, resting your elbows on your knees.

"And you didn't tell her because you thought she'd hate you?"

"Yeah," you frown again, "What're you getting at?"

"Maybe tell her again in your own words," she finally concludes, crossing her arms. "And don't be hostile like whatever you said."

"I wasn't hostile!"

"You said you would've killed her anyways."

You sigh, knitting your brows closer as you lean back in your chair. "I guess that's a little offensive."

"Clearly," Shoko chuckles before getting serious again. "Tell her again, from your perspective, not from the Zenin clan's. Do you want to kill her?"

"No," you look back at Maki again, your eyes softening as you watch her breathe gently. "I want her to live a long, happy life."

"Then tell her that," She tilts her head to Maki. "Don't let her sit there and think you hate her too."

The dimness in your eyes disappears for a moment and a spark of hope flickers in your heart. But what if she doesn't want to listen? What if she chooses Nobara over you? What if she hates you regardless?

Your eyes darken again, clouding up with doubt as you sulk in your chair.

"I can't tell her if she won't even look at me," you grumble, glancing back at Maki once again. Shoko sighs loudly, turning back to face her computer and her desk.

Shoko taps her head with her finger, resting her cheek on her arm. "Then you won't get anything done if you don't try."

The door flies open again, revealing Momo and a few others-- Megumi and Toge-- on her broom. Her face is glistening with sweat, the beads rolling down her cheeks like it was a race to get to her chin. Shoko looks up from behind her computer again, sighing quietly as she gets up.

"Looks like I have to tend to these two. But just try," she glares back down at you for a second. "It can't get much worse than this."

She leaves to bring Megumi and Toge to the other room where she sits them on their separate tables. You stay in there and fold your arms on the table and look up at Maki as she lays there, seemingly unconscious.

Your thoughts swarm in your head as you watch her rest. The thought of killing her, which made your heart wrench into a raisin. The thought of leaving her behind to your own special grade tendencies, to be like Yuta and Gojo and be stronger while Maki still fights hard for some recognition.

You don't notice her finger twitch, as you'd put your head down to sleep-- you're tired, your eyes are drooping and getting heavier.

"So you heard me and Nobara, huh?"

Your head immediately perks up at her voice, your eyes widening as your heart skips a beat and flutters. Your throat dries up, seeing her glare at you with such sharp daggers in her eyes. Her glasses got knocked off when she was fighting that curse, making her face bare for you to see.

"You were awake this whole time?"

"You checking my pulse woke me up." Maki swipes the damp rag from her forehead. If the red in her face wasn't enough, she looked pissed, with her eyes hooded and her brows frowning furiously.

"You eavesdropped on me and Nobara?"

"You live right across from me," you frown slightly. "And you two weren't exactly quiet, either."

"My door was shut. There's no way you could've heard me from all the way across the hall. So what, you keep secrets from me and expose them to Mai when that was none of her business, now you eavesdrop? What's next, you start rumors about me?"

"That wasn't Nobara's business, either!"

"If it wasn't hers or Mai's then why couldn't you tell me?! You had the balls to tell my own sister but you couldn't dare to look me in the eye and tell me yourself?"

"Do you know how hard it is to even be in your presence, right now?! Do you really think I don't feel guilty when I see you staring at me like you want to kill me?! How could I have told you when you don't even want to look at me?!"

"You looked me dead in the eye and told me you would've killed me anyways. What's so different about telling me now?!"

"I had to defend myself! I couldn't just flat out tell you in front of everyone else, knowing they would see me as some assassin instead of their upperclassmen who they're supposed to look up to! What if that was Nobara?! Would you have forgiven her?!"

"I barely know her! I've known her for a month, I wouldn't have given two shits! I've known you since I was 5, Y/n! A child! Do you know how much it hurts to spend time opening up and step outside of your safe space to someone who you care about deeply only to get back stabbed in the end?!"

"What the fuck was I supposed to do?! Naobito said he would have me executed if I hadn't started it, I don't trust Naoya's word on not snitching, and I don't know if they can track me down or not! What the fuck was I supposed to do, Maki?! What the goddamn fuck was I supposed to do?!"

"Tell me! Tell Satoru, tell someone who can help you! They weren't going to fucking turn their backs on you, they aren't the Zenins! They won't execute you for a burden laid on your teenage back!"

"That would be betraying a year's worth of trust! Gojo wouldn't look at me the same, Principal Yaga wouldn't look at me the same! Even fucking Panda doesn't look at me the same! Do you have any idea how it feels to see the people who are supposed to be your friends look at you like you're a monster?! It's humiliating, Maki! I feel naked every time I walk out and you guys see me!"

"So that's your first time, huh?! I grew up hated by the people who were supposed to love me! I was shut out, I had no rights, and now you're doing the same thing! You shut me out! You lied to me!"

"You were happy! You were so overjoyed with me and everyone else while you knew nothing! Every day since last year I had to live with the task of killing you when you looked so happy! You were smiling! You were laughing, I couldn't ruin that!"

"I'm not a child, Y/n! I can take a hit! So why didn't you hit me?! I would have listened to you! I would've helped you! Is that not what you want?!"

"No!" You slam your fist down on the table. "I don't want your help or anyone else's! I don't fucking need it! I never have, and I never will, so just shut up and stop being so insistent!"

Maki could feel her heart being pulled from her chest and squeezed and stepped on until it was mush. Her jaw dropped as she saw the look of anger on your face; she couldn't tell if you genuinely meant that or if you were simply angry. You didn't look like you were going to give her any room to understand, so she just stayed silent.

Your eyes immediately softened at her silence, your heart sinking in your chest as you backed away, realizing you raised a hand against her. You swallowed the swelling lump in your throat as you struggled for words, only to be cut off by her.

"Get out."

Your heart momentarily stopped as your eyes blinked rapidly.

"If that's how you truly feel, then get out of my sight. You've said enough."

Your feet moved on their own, your hand squeezing the door handle and swinging the door open before dashing down the hallway with tears in your eyes.

Words couldn't describe the self hatred you felt. Maybe it was meant to be with you two— separated. You don't know, your head is spinning and your brain is swimming (and drowning) in your emotions. You can't even speak because you're so angry, scared, anxious, impure.

Your rapid footsteps echo through the hallways as you speed through them, rushing back out to the makeshift battlefield where you'd saved Maki. The curse from earlier looked pretty hurt, though you could assume it was from Yuji and Todo's doing.

You zoomed right in, yet another stiff shadow forming in your hands and solidifying into another lightning bolt, and it flew from your hands like a javelin and hit the curse right in its face. The impact knocked the curse back a few feet before another bolt came crashing down on it.

Again and again you threw lightning bolt after lightning bolt, your anger fueling your cursed energy output and eventually knocked the curse out of it's own veil.

After that, Team Battles for the Exchange Event were over for the day. Everyone was sent to Shoko for their injuries— Itadori got sent for the concussion Todo gave him, Nobara got sent for Mai shooting her with a rubber bullet, Noritoshi was sent for whatever reason, Miwa was sent because she got knocked out from Toge— he also went for the overuse of his cursed speech. In short, Shoko was beat by the end of the day.

No one knew were you were. Yuji and Todo volunteered to go on a manhunt for you even, and when they searched for hours they still couldn't find you. They'd given up after Yuji got a text from Nobara about why you were gone (Todo suggested that they leave you alone instead).

Maki wanted to go with them, because no mater how much you yell at her and tell her you don't need her, she'd still be compelled to look for you, after you.

She loves you, after all.

Simple react/next js todo list

Modeled after this tutorial by Web Dev Simplified, but using Next.js and Tailwind

I think following a plain react tutorial while using next js is what gave me some issues, especially being my first react project. I probably should have learned some basic react first before going into frameworks, but oh well.

Trying to line up the text with the CSS paper was a huge pain. I still don't like how it looks but at least it's not floating through the lines anymore lol.

The data persistence gave me the most trouble (took me like FIVE hours 😭). The way it was done in the video did not work for me at all, so I had to figure it out. Local storage can't be accessed during server-side rendering, so accessing localStorage has to be done during client-side rendering, using the useEffect hook. But, as I've learned, the useEffect hook doesn't have a return value, and hooks can only be called at the top level. Then I found out that React intentionally calls useEffect twice and that was resetting my local storage with the empty initialization value -_- But in the end i got it working :)

Now I wanna add some more features; a delete all, clear selected, maybe edit note.

Can I ask your top 5 favorite moments each from Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece? And your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from each series?

Ooooh this is going to be difficult for me but I am very happy to! I think I gush about the characters I like a lot on my blog already ajljfljgf so I'll just list the characters, but I'll go more in depth on my top moments for both series. Uhhh major spoilers for both series under the cut.

For JJK, my top five characters are Yuuji, Kenjaku, Yuki, Geto, and Choso (and for a top ten, I would include Gojo, Nobara, Maki, Higuruma, and Mahito).

Ok for JJK, I thought this was gonna be easier but there are really a lot of moments I love, so some honorable mentions: Junpei's death, Yuuji and Nobara vs. Cursed Wombs, Gojo sealed in the prison realm, Yuuji vs. Choso, Nanami's Death, Yuuji vs. Higuruma, Sukuna taking over Megumi (yeah I considered all of these for the list lmao)

Premature Death (Ch. 76-78)

I certainly enjoyed JJK before this point, but Geto's character arc in Hidden Inventory is where I went "Oh, this is something special." In JJK 0, I was definitely intrigued by him and his relationship to Gojo, but without context, he comes off a little corny with how over the top evil he seems. And then we see him in Hidden Inventory, and he's just this...normal and polite kid? He wants to protect non-sorcerers? But then Riko dies. And the jujutsu system fails him, and his fall from grace is so tragic but also realistic to his character. We see him display this black and white thinking from the very beginning, "Jujutsu sorcerers HAVE to protect the weak non-sorcerers" flipped to "We need to protect jujutsu sorcerers from the non-sorcerers." Geto is a victim, but he doesn't identify the cause correctly. I think he's such a tragic character and really reinforces the themes of JJK so wonderfully, the system failed him (and really every young sorcerer), there was no support, and it really gives weight to Gojo's character and mission to become a teacher and raise strong sorcerers that can support each other.

2. Yuuji and Todo vs. Mahito (Ch. 127-132)

This is still probably the best fight in the series and it's a really good example of how fights can push forward the characters and themes in a story. JJK loves it's parallels, and one of my favorite parallels is Geto and Yuuji, both looking down at their dead friend and just, breaking from it. Yuuji's resolve just crumbling after seeing Nobara die is so heartbreaking, he isn't able to beat Choso, or suppress Sukuna from wreaking havoc, or save Nanami or Nobara. And it presents the same question that Geto faced with failing to save Riko or defeat Toji. Why is Yuuji a sorcerer? I think that Todo coming into this fight in a support role was a really good choice, where he reminds Yuuji that he still has things and people to fight for, what has he been entrusted with? And Mahito really proves himself to be the best villain in the series here, he's such a good foil to Yuuji and the way that they push each other's character developments is unlike anything I've seen. SO many good and important moments from this fight, and ending with Yuuji's "I'm you" speech? Maybe the best moment in the whole series.

3. Maki vs. The Zenin Clan (Ch. 148-151)

I'll always stand by the opinion that Mai's death is the best in the entire series and it's not even close. Maki and Mai's story is just so tragic, the way that they grew apart, but then reconciled but only at the end? I think their story is a really good way in how people react differently to oppressive systems, where Maki wants to break free from it and prove that she is strong, while Mai is "happy enough" to live under that system as long as she can have her sister by her side. She doesn't want to face the backlash that standing up for herself will cause. And for their family to turn on them and be willing to kill them in order to uphold the systems of power they have in place? Genuinely evil shit but it's realistic in how they treat Toji, Maki, and Mai, they are all victims of this family. Mai giving her blessing to Maki to "destroy everything" is another contender for top moment in this series, and Maki only being able to gain her full power by losing her sister, the one person she wanted to protect, is so cruel. Maki's character arc is truly one of the best in the series.

4. Yuki and Choso vs. Kenjaku

So this is the entry I definitely have the most mixed feelings on, I don't love everything about this fight (...namely...how it ended..) but I love A LOT about it so it's still on the list. Every interaction between these characters is endlessly interesting to watch, and I could write an essay on this fight. Yuki and Kenjaku as foils to each other, wanting to achieve the same goal of optimizing cursed energy but in completely different ways. Choso and Kenjaku's fucked up relationship where Kenjaku has been so cruel to, and Choso standing up to Kenjaku to fight for his brothers and starting his new life as a human instead of a curse. Yuki and Choso having to reckon with their humanity and their inhuman nature (star plasma vessel and cursed womb), every dynamic is just so amazing. And that's not to even mention Tengen's dynamic with both Yuki and Kenjaku. So many good character moments throughout this fight and I'm so invested in all four of them.

5. Takaba vs. Kenjaku (Ch. 239-243)

Sooo the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight was good fun and all, but undeniably I was getting pretty bored of it by the end. It's an alright fight but I think it was stretched out in order to line up Chapter 236 with Gojo being sealed in the prison realm in the anime. I needed something new, and oh man, Takaba vs. Kenjaku was completely unexpected but it blew me out of the water. This is genuinely one of if not the most unique shonen fights I have ever read, and Gege just really seemed to be in his element writing this. Not only is this one of the funniest parts of the entire series, but it does a lot of favors for both Takaba and Kenjaku as characters. JJK is big on duos, and it truly feels like they found their other half in this fight and push each other in new ways. Was the perfect breather before jumping back to Sukuna, and while I'm also not a huge fan of how it ended, there's too much I like about it to leave it off the list.

Ok, now for the hard part with One Piece lmao. For characters, I'm splitting it into a strawhats and non-strawhats list because I think it would be actually impossible otherwise ajfssdklj. For strawhats, my top five are Zoro, Robin, Sanji, Luffy, and Brook. For non-strawhats, it's Corazon, Law, Pudding, Crocodile, and Vivi.

Honorable Mentions: Shank's saving Luffy/strawhat passoff, Zoro vs. Mihawk, Nami's "Help Me", Luffy climbing up Drum Island with Nami and Sanji, Alabasta goodbye, Ringing the Golden Bell in Skypeia, Luffy vs. Usopp, CP9 Reveal, Sanji and Sogeking on the Water Train, Franky backstory, Sogeking shooting down the world gov. flag, Robin's "I want to live", Going Merry funeral, Brook's backstory, Luffy punches the celestial dragon, Boa Hancock's backstory, Ace's death, Luffy "I still have my friends", Fisher Tiger backstory, Kyro's backstory, "Raizo is safe", Brook vs. Big Mom, Pedro's death, Luffy vs. Katakuri, Yasuie's death, Hiyori standing up to Orochi, Oden/Roger backstory, Kanjuro reveal, Sanji asking Robin to save him from Black Maria, Robin vs. Black Maria, Sanji vs. Queen, Gear 5, Kuma and Bonney backstory (this is truly an evil task you've given me I love all of these moments and so many more lmao).

Robin's backstory (Enies Lobby)

If Water 7 and Enies Lobby counted as a "moment" I would, but unfortunately those are two full arcs lmao so I decided to choose just one aspect to include here. What can I even say that hasn't been said. Robin's backstory just perfectly explains where she comes from, her strengths and her flaws, and makes her character journey and development so special. No wonder she's had a hard time accepting the strawhats help, her entire life she's been an outcast and even branded as a demon just for the knowledge she carries. Her goodbye to her mother and to Saul are heartbreaking, and to see how she spends 20 years running away and not trusting anyone? It makes it so special when the strawhats tell her "You deserve to live, we won't abandon you, we are your friends no matter what and we will help you." Such a good backstory that not only cements Robin as one of the best characters in the series, but is so important from a world building and thematic perspective for the series as a whole.

2. Zoro's "Nothing Happened" (Thriller Bark)

This moment really cemented Zoro as one of my favorite characters, and is just a moment that has so many layers you can explore (you should check out melonteees recent video "Reframing Nothing Happened" she puts my feelings better than I probably can here lmao). I ultimately find this scene really tragic and scary, but wow does it just highlight Zoro's character development and how much he loves and respects Luffy and the rest of the crew. At the beginning of the series, this is a character who tells Luffy that if he gets in the way of his dream, he'll kill him. We see right before this that Zoro survives a near death experience and is really glad to still be alive, this isn't someone who wants to die. Yet when Kuma comes around, and he realizes he's outmatched, he starts bargaining with Kuma to save Luffy's life. He's not even giving up his dream here, telling Kuma you'll have the head of someone who would have been the best swordsman in the world someday. Him taking out Sanji and protecting him as well, just in this almost quiet anger when Sanji says "you'll have to find a new cook", it's such a good moment as well. Him accepting the pain bubble, it almost killing him, and him saying "nothing happened" because he doesn't want to upset Luffy with the sacrifice? Gahhh I could talk about this moment forever, and it's such a turning point for both Zoro and all of the strawhats I think.

3. Kuma separates the Strawhats (Sabaody Archipelago)

Contender for one of the most evil things Oda has ever done. This arc is full of so many amazing moments, and it just builds up to this terrifying climax where it feels like the strawhats are just getting hunted down, and each strawhat disappearing one by one just made my jaw drop, I stopped watching One Piece for like five days after this lmao. Luffy's desperation to help his crew and breaking down after, Zoro having this trauma response to Kuma, Sanji noticing and trying to protect Zoro, Brook trying to divert Kuma away, the bubbles popping one by one as each strawhat is sent away? Jesus Christ, I was a mess. And the decision to send away Zoro first, the protector and really just the rock of the crew that everyone can rely on, and Robin last, after going through SO much to try and protect her and to reassure her that she's safe with them? Wow. This moment and the Nothing Happened scene just got even more depth with Kuma's backstory, it's just seared into my brain.

4. Law's backstory (Dressrosa)

Anon I want you to know just looking at this picture and thinking about Law's backstory INSTANTLY made me tear up lmao, nothing has affected me quite like this in One Piece. Corazon's story and his personality and his just, absolute and unconditional love for Law made me fall in love with this character. He's been through SO much and instead of turning out like his brother because of it, he just becomes this very kind and caring person that wants to protect people from the ruin that Doflamingo brings. And just how Law is this very angry and hurt kid that gets taken in by Doflamingo because he sees Law's anger and is reminded of himself, and Corazon just is able to divert him from taking this path by just genuinely caring for Law, trying to find ANY doctor that will treat Law's illness and then being willing to steal the Op Op fruit in order to save his life? And just...at the end trying to not let Law that he got hurt, hiding Law away and telling him he loves him before facing Doffy, him CLINGING onto life in order to keep the silencing on Law so that he can cry and grieve for Law as he runs away? When I tell you I was SOBBING when Corazon died that's not an exaggeration. Just the pure unconditional love and the found family between them is so beautiful, and the way Law dedicates his entire life to Corazon and carries on his legacy? It just gives me chills.

5. Sanji in Whole Cake Island (...Whole Cake Island)

Ummm I'm going to cheat here because I'm including Sanji's entire character arc in this entry, but it's impossible to choose just one moment from it. From his backstory, to Sanji vs. Luffy, to finding out about Pudding's betrayal, to him returning to Luffy, to him saving the day with making a cake, everything about Sanji in this arc is such perfection. There are so many layers to this character and similar to Robin, seeing his second backstory really answers a lot of questions about him and where so many of his strengths and his flaws come from, and how Luffy is able to make him realize "We are your family, no matter what we will help you and you matter so much to us." I think the themes in Whole Cake Island about family are so powerful, and exploring them through Sanji was such a brilliant move that really did his character lot of favors, and made him one of the most interesting and dynamic strawhats.

When I was a kid I would dream about being able to have free will and realizing now I do have a lot of freedom. I don't live with my parents and I think I was throwing myself a pity party because I don't have the familial support but in reality I didn't want that, i know I can take care of myself. I know I am much happier on my own. I never really felt like I fit in to the community I grew up in and I so desperately wanted to leave and now I have left. I was filled with so much doubt for many years after leaving because I thought what i did was bad and I'm living through the punishment but the so called "punishment" - the hardships - are really just helping me grow. I am so thankful for my freedom, I am so thankful for much job which allows me to experience this freedom.

Mental fluidity... I really do place these unnecessary boundaries on thinks I can do. I saw a video yesterday where someone said the reason we're so scared of "flirting" is because we add all this mental pressure to it. Allow yourself simplicity. It's not a big deal to call someone pretty, male or female. "Well who cares?" literally no one. You can do anything you want , your mind creates imaginary boundaries some may have validity but they should always be a simple suggestion not a roadblock. You can take the risk, go out of your comfort zone let go of the resistance. I don't need to block ease. easeeeee

What do you want to commit to? Be detail oriented, but not a perfectionist. I want to be committed to myself. I've noticed more recently letting go of perfectionism and made up rules, but at the same time keep to a routine. if i wake up late, still have my routine. If I mess up in eating, eat some more healthy stuff, walk more, drink more water, you can always bounce back. I've been bouncing back quicker. If you are tired of work, take a break rather than continuing to push yourself into burnout.

Get re-inspired by where you are. This is the beginning to more. I think one think i've learned through work that can also be applied to life is that if you don't know the next steps - no matter how much effort and time and pressure you put on yourself you will not make progress and sometimes even make negative impacts by the mental burden you put on yourself seeing it as failure. If you don't know what to do - pause, its not worth pushing yourself... once you KNOW what to do - start make a simple todo list, start on it and if you don't know where to go next pause again - find out how. Don't put unnecessary pressure. Everything happens for a reason. You are so so powerful

Anger is above fear. Choosing anger can get you out of fear. Fear makes you stagnant, anger makes you flowing again. A step past that is courage, and then acceptance. Do not get stuck at fear, turn the fear to anger. Anger is good.

I love myself, I love the opportunity that im surrounded by. I love that there are so many opportunities in this world. The hard things you go through are the reason you are successful, those are your power point, under pressure and heat is how you grow into a beautiful crystal. The longer the pressure the more valuable they become. Everything is a learning experience. Every single thing.

Magic. The robin trusts her wings not the branch she sits on. I don't control the branch but i control myself. I can control my own actions, I can control where I fly, I can control how I react. Trust yourself, trust your instinct, trust your experience. You are an infinite being who is capable of expanding in infinite ways. I am infinitely valuable. Do not be scared of scarcity because no matter what you can survive.

Initial Thoughts - 250327: I’m suddenly wanting to watch this… I had this in my Options list just in case I ran out of GL and wanted to watch another one but right now, I’m not out of GL, I just specifically want to watch this GL lol. I’ll look forward to starting it today/tomorrow.

Overall Thoughts: I hoped to like it more than I did. The characters are all frustrating and making bad choices but that's not a problem for me, I expected that. But this show lacked intrigue and tension, every character knew the other characters’ secrets, so it felt like there wasn’t really any tension - like May knew that Oon was pretending the whole time, so why would I care how she would react when it all finally came to light? The whole “May loved Oon first after their one fleeting high school interaction and therefore actually loved Oon the whole time despite being in a relationship with Oom” is so… silly. I liked May and Oon interactions earlier on because it was so cute but also shrouded in secrets but I think after this childhood reveal and obsession with who May fell for first, I stopped caring much. I liked the sisters’ relationships with the grandma and how it different and how they each felt neglected, even if the grandma didn’t mean it that way. The relationship between the sisters was interesting too and how they wanted what the other had. Phim, Pang, Jan love triangle was pretty interesting and I kept hoping for them to get together but I’ll take that successive 3 pairs of kisses lol. I didn’t at all like how they did the whole “oh being blind for 2 years was May’s karma and punishment and her getting her sight back means she has been punished enough” like no… disability is not a moral failing. The acting and crafting of the show was good, but the writing… sigh. And not much emotional investment from me, took me over a week to watch it and doubt I’ll think of it again.

Initial Thoughts - 250404: I put this in my Options list on 250327 because it's one of the most liked 2025 shows early in the air and seems cute, so I was gonna watch it later on but similar to Pluto, I suddenly wanted to watch it and pulled it from Options to Currently Watching lol

Overall Thoughts: Overall, cute but not memorable and got boring/had missteps by the end. In some ways, Rak and Fah are a little Too Polite and Too Sweet for me, so I found them a little boring after 12 episodes, but I did enjoy them overall. I really liked the glimpses of Hia and Real because they were still like best friends who are always at each other’s throats and it made for a fun romantic dynamic. Ghlai and Lee were alright, cute enough but I was hoping for more after seeing how charming they are in Duang With You trailer. I really wish they didn’t go with the Oh “redemption” arc because why would I give a single fuck… and I wish everybody didn’t so readily forgive the dad’s homophobic outbursts, even though it was good to see that Rak’s fears were real and grounded

Initial Impression: I can't tell if the overall reception was good or not but I might watch it for the ships and the (crime + humourous?) shenanigans. Not too high hopes on the plot and coherent storyline but hoping for great chemistry between KhaoFirst and JoongDunk. (I reread the GMMTV 2024 Part 2 and apparently this was my #1 most anticipated)

Overall Impression: Generally enjoyed it, liked the first half more than the second half, though Ep 6-7 run is probably my fave. It was extremely important that I know that, apparently, the creators and actors were touting it as a rom-com, so I knew the focus was going to be on the relationships developing and hearing mixed reviews (esp about how it kinda derailed at the end) also helped bc i thought it was going to be worse than it was. Liked the main characters well enough and ships, Kant and Bison more so toward the beginning. I thought it was more fun when Kant was using Bison more clearly at the beginning, like he would be putting himself through the pain that Bison likes and be mostly flirting with the goal in mind (he fell for Bison later than Style fell for Fadel) + the way Bison flew off the handle after finding out about it and kidnapped Kant and treated him badly. Wasn’t really into how sugary, sweet, and boring they were in the last 1/3 of the show tbh. I was surprised by how much I liked Fadel (and Style) and their couple being kinda DunkJoong, a new and exciting dynamic. They really hit some emotional beats for me (ep 6 Fadel saying I love you + dancing with + hugging Style after learning of his betrayal) and many of the sexy vibes as well (ep 8 bathtub scene…). I wrote so much for this in my actual show post.

Overall Impression: Been looking forward to this one since the pilot trailer. Overall, an enjoyable show and I like the relationship between Thame/Po and also Thame & Mars. I also liked getting to see my beloved celeb/non-celeb trope and also idolverse trope (though I didn't actually watch or listen to much of the songs/performances, they weren't for me). The show seemed polished in terms of direction, cinematography, styling, etc; they followed the kdrama styling that it seemed like they were aiming for. However, I do think being so into kpop hindered my enjoyment when it strayed from like... what makes sense. I couldn't figure out how popular Mars were and the disbanding Mars + Thame Korean debut didn't make much sense to me. But I liked Thame and Po well enough as characters and the storyline of the show, even if it did get muddy sometimes.

Initial Impression - 250327: toxic, messy kBL, that's fun! Everybody was invested, I'm curious to see it.

Overall: I had a lot of fun by not seeing the letter say "Soohyun" and so Daon's old feelings for Soohyun were never spelled out to me in the show, only strongly hinted at going forward. I enjoyed all the actors' performances and how fucked up each character was, though of course the degree varies. Jaemin was soooo fucked in the head, quite enjoyable to figure out why the hell he was doing his stupid agreement plan and to see what other master manipulator, schemer, trickster stuff he had up his sleeve. Soohyun was really fucking scary fr, he scared me more than Jaemin usually because he's so violent but I do have to say some of his scenes with Daon were cute/hot. Sunghyeon would get the side eye from me in other shows for being too obsessive and overbearing, I'd want him to leave Daon alone and also to gain some self-respect; however, in this show, he's doing great lol. Seeing Daon navigate this craazy situation was interesting, there were multiple instances when I didn't really understand why he was doing what he was doing but he made sense to me in general. I think the writing and acting was quite good, the show was enjoyable to watch, and it was all very melodramatic but not too much for me.

Initial Thoughts: - 250421: Usually I just watch the more popular, well-liked shows because the watchlist is sooo long that I haven't even gotten to some of my most anticipated shows yet. But I saw some beautiful, vibey shots in a tweet + I had bookmarked BL Update's tweet about this on Twitter on April 11 but... saw this tiktok with face slapping awoooooo so ofc I should watch it...

Overall Thoughts: Great cinematography, really gorgeous, I'm craving lychees so fucking bad and want to go away to a beautiful island for the summer ;-; I liked the dynamic between Chen Li and Xiao Ji, they were fun and had easy chemistry. But I'm not super attached and the writing could've been tighter and clearer.

Overall Thoughts: A short, silly show with not much substance but that was what I needed during the few days before I went on vacation - no time for a 12 episode show with new characters and ups and downs. FahRak: same old, same old. Wish the jealousy plots had some bite but oh well. They’re cute enough but not memorable to me. RealHia: My beloveds, wish they had more time. That episode two stint with the play fighting with kisses was so good, love their dynamic. LeeGhlai: Somewhat boring because they made Ghlai boring but the hand holding scene was cute.

Overall Thoughts: I always enjoy an established relationship and I'm glad we got to see that here because Xiao Ji and Chen Li have really good chemistry and easy interactions. And it continues to be artsy but the meandering wasn't as interesting as the island + I'm not attached to them at all.

Internal Thoughts - March: I love a celebrity romance and everybody seems to have loved it. I am really keen to see older bottom-younger top pursuer + there are a few angsty Episode 6 clips that I saw on Twitter that have been haunting me since then. I was a bit nervous about whether it'll end sadly because they keep hinting at S2 but seems that's not the case.

Overall Thoughts: Romance and drama following a celebrity couple with a younger pursuer/top and older pursued/bottom character, it really was everything it said on the tin and the good acting that people were raving about as well. I really enjoyed the actor and celebrity aspect of this. The show knew what to focus on with a setting like this, the conflicts included things like the court of public opinion, sasaengs, leaks/rumours/photos, nosy paparazzi/reporters, contracts and entertainment companies, some amounts of envy from Akin towards Jin because they're rivals in their career. I wish we got the fallout from them being exposed to the public though. I enjoyed Jin and Akin's relationship and dynamic, they were really endearing. We also got to learn quite a bit about Akin, so I wish we got to know Jin a bit more too. Jade is my favourite character, though: he's intelligent, attractive, and somebody who gets things done. Has some really good stand out scenes, like the Episode 6 car confrontation scene where Jin thinks Akin is cheating on him and Episode 9 breakup scene. The script, direction, and acting is so good in all of them. I hope they make seasons 2 and 3 like they planned, I'd watch.
